gMap 3.3.3 released

It was a looong time since I last visited gMap. I’m actually not working in jQuery anymore. Nevertheless today I released a quick update for the plugin. I did it because of a funny phone call I got few days ago…

In the late evening an international number called my mobile. The caller was a man from India, asking if I could add a feature to gMaps. It was a little extraordinary (at least I’ve never seen any direct contact regarding open source) so I decided to spend some time on it. From now on you can use styled maps by putting under “styles” property of config object styles array that you can find described in Maps API.
Example usage would be:

$("#map").gMap({
    latitude: "fit",
    longitude: "fit",
    zoom: 6,
    markers: [{ latitude: 51.5282128, longitude: 7.02943}],
    styles: [
    {
        stylers: [
            { hue: "#00ffe6" },
            { saturation: -20 }
        ]
    },{
        featureType: "road",
        elementType: "geometry",
        stylers: [
            { lightness: 100 },
            { visibility: "simplified" }
        ]
    },{
        featureType: "road",
        elementType: "labels",
        stylers: [
            { visibility: "off" }
        ]
    }]

});

I also fixed a minor bug (leftover console.log in a rare case) which caused issues with IE and improved unit tests a little.

It was actually interesting to revisit a piece of code I started two years ago and haven’t seen in last 7 months. It may as well happen that it is a final release of gMap, but I’m still quite proud that it gained some audience and that I have such pleasant encounters like a phone call from India.
